Earlier this year in May, Freddie Mercury appeared via hologram during Queen’s performance at the Dominion Theater in London. It has been over ten years since the artist’s passing and his band will now pay tribute by creating a biographical film. Current frontman, Brian May, told fans via his online blog that he would dish out details from Queen’s recent band meeting. The agenda revolved around this film, set for release in early 2014. May wrote:
The pieces are all falling into place, though we are now on a slightly later schedule – filming is now scheduled to start in the Spring, with Sacha Baron Cohen playing Freddie. The film should be ready for release early in 2014. We did make some other plans, but they will have to stay under wraps for now.
By “slightly later schedule,” May is referring to the original projected year for production in 2011, (thanks to Screen Rant for that piece of information). This should be an interesting role for Cohen, seeing as his comedic talents is what initially landed him the spotlight. Aesthetically, Cohen is absolutely perfect for the part (as pictured above). In a year and some months from now, we’ll see how all these puzzle pieces fit together.
