Justin Vernon Claims Bon Iver is “Winding Down”

An announcement that Grammy winning American folk music act Bon Iver would be concluding their touring cycle for their current, 2011 released self-titled album, but that does not necessarily mean the band would immediately begin working on new material.

This past year has been a huge year for Bon Iver, as their critically acclaimed album was voted Best Album of 2011 by Pitchfork and won a Grammy for Best New Artist this past year. But they are taking their time with making a new record, and no release date has been scheduled.

A spokesperson from the band’s label, Jagjaguwar, issued this statement:

“They are just going off cycle after two very busy years on this record.”

Justin Vernon from Bon Iver appeared on Minnesota Public Radio station 89.3 The Current’s Local Show, and updated them about the band”

“Winding it down. I look at it like a faucet. I have to turn it off and walk away from it because so much of how that music comes together is subconscious or discovering. There’s so much attention on the band, it can be distracting at times. I really feel the need to walk away from it while I still care about it. And then if I come back to it – if at all – I’ll feel better about it and be renewed or something to do that.”

Watch Bon Iver’s September 21st performance at Radio City Music Hall below, which will only be posted for another 24 hours.
