Canadian singer/songwriter Feist became the latest recipient of the Polaris Music Prize, held at the Concert Hall Studios at Bell Media’s Masonic Temple in downtown Toronto, for her 2011 album Metals.
The award was represented by last year’s winners, Jeremy Gara and Tim Kingsbury of Arcade Fire, and taking home prize money of $30,000. The other nine short list nominees took home $2000 awarded by Slaight Music.
A four time Grammy nominated artist along with eight Juno wins including 2012 Artist of the Year and a two time Polaris Music Prize Shortlist nominee, Metals was recorded in Toronto with inspirations drawing from jazz and the blues, and capturing a wide array of emotions, from the chaotic and moody to intensity, resembling the ever changing moods of nature.
Her success from Metals landed her an appearance on Sesame Street, teaching the Muppets how to count.
