Freakwater’s Catherine Irwin has made her new song “Mockingbird” available as a free download. The track features American singer/songwriter/actor Bonnie “Prince” Billy contributing his distinct vocals on this song. Check it out below.
Irwin is best known for her work in Freakwater (with Janet Bean), releasing seven albums worth of influential alt-country music and her songs being covered by the likes of Neko Case (“Hex”), Kelly Hogan (“Dusty Groove”), Califone and Jolie Holland. Freakwater also released a seven inch with their rendition of Black Sabbath’s “War Pigs.” She released her first solo album Cut Yourself A Switch in 2002.
Her second and latest album Little Heater was produced by Tara Jane Oneil (of Rodan and Ida), who also played drums and lends vocals on the record. Marc Orleans (The Acid Twangers, D. Charles Speer and the Helix) played the pedal steel.
