For those of you still on an EDM high after Above & Beyond’s three-night Group Therapy lovefest extravaganza, take heed of another UK electronic group stirring up big hertz waves here in LA: Simian Mobile Disco. The duo, formed by former bandmates James Ford and Jas Shaw of electro-rock band Simian, have been making a name for themselves ever since 2005, with stuck-in-your-head singles like “It’s The Beat” and the ubiquitous club hit of ’06/’07 “Hustlin'” propelling them under the neon colored EDM spotlight.
To celebrate the launch of their newest album Unpatterns –which may just be SMD at their very best, showcasing their signature hypnotic beats from the opening of the very first track “I Waited For You” -they’ll be ripping through a DJ set at the Avalon on June 1st. And it’s no surprise the event is listed to last way past the normal 2am club life expectancy time (that’ll be 5 am, thank you very much); after all, James and Jas have been known to fuel a sweaty dance floor without resorting to huge drops every few minutes like few others can.
If you left your heart in London like I did, take heed: this may be your remedy. If not, at the very least you’ll burn some calories dancing to some seriously funky electro. Fancy that!
