Contrary to what their name may imply, Dum Dum Girls are not a Spice Girls-esque powerpop girl group from the 90’s. Dum Dum Girls are in fact a noise-pop group fronted by a lead singer named Dee Dee, originally formed in California but now bi-coastal, and named after an Iggy Pop song and an album by The Vaselines – not a small fruity lollipop (yeah I know…last part is kind of bummer). Their hazy, languid melodies will get stuck in your head for days (try listening to “Bedroom Eyes” without humming it once afterwards, I dare you) and their dreamy lo-fi charm will win you over instantaneously. They’re playing a show at the Echoplex on May 18 and if you’re into cute girls who double as extremely talented musicians, you should consider buying tix. If not, then…have fun with your cat/iguana/pet rock/DVD collection. Kidding. But seriously. Get tix. Cheers!
