So…I’m not going to Coachella. Yes, I’m obviously devastated by this (usually expressed by my inability to form coherent sentences for approximately 4.5 minutes anytime anyone mentions the C-word) and yes, I’ll be accepting lots of alcoholic beverages hugs for the next few days before the massive magical music orgy starts.
But I am not one to wallow, dear friends, and neither should the unfortunate few of you who did not manage to get your desperately grappling hands on tickets either. Thus, I present to you: Brokechella 2012. Now, will this modest downtown music-fest compare to the rainbow lasers and sweat-fueled stages of Coachella? Probably not. (But then again, that also depends on how many drinks you plan to have beforehands…ahem.) But does this appropriately named festival have a pleasantly surprising roster of local musical acts lined up, along with some supa cool art installations by talented local LA artists to display? Why yes, yes it does. Seriously though, some of the names on the roster gave me quite a start (i.e. yOya, LA Font, and Infantree, just to name a few) – I’d gladly shell out money to see any one of them perform live, and here they are all performing under one roof for one very reasonable price? ($5, in case you were curious). Looks like I won’t be needing seven seasons of How I Met Your Mother on DVD for this weekend after all.
Oh, one more thing: the first 300 people through the door get a free swag bag…’nuff said.
