Kraftwerk To Perform Eight Albums in Their Entirety At the Museum of Modern Art in New York City

This coming April, Kraftwerk will be performing in a new format and at a new venue: The Museum of Modern Art.  They will be showcased in the museum’s first live retrospective Kraftwerk–Retrospective 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8. For each of the eight consecutive nights, Kraftwerk will perform one of their eight albums in the Donald B. and Catherine C. Marron Atrium at the MOMA.

The exhibit is meant to convey Kraftwerk’s contributions to sound and image culture both historically and and in the present day.  Klaus Biesenbach, Chief Curator at Large at MoMA and Director of MoMA PS1, organized the event with the assistance of Eliza Ryan, Curatorial Assistant, MoMA PS1.  Throughout the performances, Kraftwerk will incorporate 3D images and sound to display technological innovations in the world of electronic music.

Kraftwerk was created in Düsseldorf, Germany in 1970 by Ralf Hütter and Florian Schneider and has since continued to receive acclaim for their experimentation with visual and sound art.  In addition to trying out different synthesizers and tapes, Kraftwerk utilizes various machines and robots to create non-human sounds.

Tickets for the performances went on sale on February 22nd, and have already sold out, but you can still view the Kraftwerk exhibit in the new MoMA PS1 Performance Dome at MoMA PS1.
