I’ve been nostalgic for the Northwest lately. Not really quite sure why, but the only way I know how to deal with this (other than frequenting every Starbucks within a two mile radius of my house) is to listen to some of my favorite bands from the area. Which is why I re-discovered and re-loved Portland’s experimental folk band Blitzen Trapper all over again this week. Imagine my delight when I realized they actually have a headlining show coming up at the Troubador in two weeks! It’s like the fates have heeded my yearning and actually aligned for me for once in my life!
So…I’ll be at the show. And you should be too. I mean, come on, this is the band whose album was ranked on #13 on Rolling Stone‘s Top Album list and whose single was ranked #4- there’s no way you’d want to miss a minute of their twangy, heartfelt folk melodies. I swear, listening to Furr brings me back to the freshly-rained upon, glistening Northwest like none other – even more so than watching ten Portlandia episodes in a row while drinking a vegan shake. Not that I do that.
