London-based indie rockers Yuck played The Troubador to a satisfied sold out crowd this past Summer, playing mostly hits from their recent self-titled album.
They kicked off their set with their bouncy hit “The Wall,” immediately pleasing their audience. Lead vocalist Daniel Blumberg could hardly stand still long enough to sing into the mic, sporting his signature hunched-back, slanted stance. At one point he held the microphone in one hand and his guitar in the other, swaying about on stage while trying to switch guitars to play “Suck.”
Drummer Jonny Rogoff especially had his time to shine during “Rubber” as the rest of the band took it down a few notches while he pounded away loudly, proudly and prominently. Other songs on the set included “Get Away,” “Milkshake,” “Shook Down” and “Georgia.” Poor choice on not playing “Sunday.”
Even as the show ended and everyone else set down their instruments and left the stage, guitarist Max Bloom sat down on the stage and messed with the distortion pedals. You caught him down there lots of other times during the set, too.
After a few minutes of moderately loud clapping, Yuck returned to the stage, stating “It’s very rare that we do an encore,” and left the audience with “Coconut Bible,” found on the B-side of their single “Holing Out.” Interesting choice.
“We are going to a coconut-covered heaven…”
