Blur vocalist Damon Albarn has confirmed that the group has been recording music again. In an exclusive interview in this week’s issue in NME, Albarn confirms that the group has recorded spoken word piece and poet Michael Horovitz earlier this year.
The track was created in response to a threat that this year’s Notting Hill Carnival would be cancelled. The carnival has taken place annually since 1964, and is the second-largest street festival after Brazil’s Rio Carnival.
Because the threat of cancellation was so brief, Gorillaz man Albarn says that the group is unsure of whether the group will release the track at all, saying, “If they’d have cancelled the carnival…maybe we’d have put it out…it was relevant for about 12 hours.”
Albarn hinted at plans to play live with the band next year, but makes it clear that Blur is one of the many projects he is focusing on.
This weekend, he also played debut gigs with Rocketjiuce To The Moon, his newest venture with Red Hot Chili Peppers members Flea and Tony Allen.
