Columbia Records has announced December 13 release date for the soundtrack for We Bought a Zoo, featuring original music composed by Sigur Rós front man Jon Thor Birgisson, aka Jónsi. The Cameron Crowe film will hit theaters everywhere December 23.
The album was written and recorded over four months this summer at Los Angeles’ Village Studio and at Jónsi’s home in Iceland, and includes over thirty minutes of new music from Jónsi. The entire soundtrack includes two full songs that cover nine themes, as well as second looks at songs from Jónsi’s acclaimed solo album, “Go,” as well as Sigur Rós’ well-known track, “Hoppinpolla.”
Director Cameron Crowe has well-established relationship that goes back to the band’s international debut in 2001. Crowe included three of the band’s songs in the successful 2001 Tom Cruise film, Vanilla Sky.
“Early on it was obvious that [Sigur Rós’] music would have a profound effect on the making of We Bought A Zoo,” says Cameron. “In preparation for making the movie, we gave all the actors and crew members a copy of Sigur Rós’ transcendent documentary, ‘Heima’.”
Look for the album to hit stores on December 13, followed by the December 23 release of We Bought A Zoo.
