You may recognize Taylor Locke for his guitar skills in the band Rooney, but you won’t find any polished power-pop anthems in this new project of his: Taylor Locke & The Roughs‘ overall sound is little grittier, a little moodier and a lot more rock ‘n roll (but still totally danceable – just check out their single “Jennifer“). They draw lots of inspiration from the Brit-pop sound of the 60’s, incorporating guiltily catchy melodies with some truly shred-worthy guitar riffs – think Badfinger with a bit of Zeppelin thrown in for good measure. The band got its start when some talented rockers found time outside their other band’s commitments to hang, let loose and be creative with each other without the pressures of managers or labels. Founding members come from bands such as Price, The Like and Everybody Else – clearly, experience was never an issue with this collab.
So if you’re looking to check out a new-ish band that has some serious potential (as well as background experience) to make big waves, don’t miss Taylor Locke & The Roughs’ show at the Bootleg on Friday, October 21. Your ears (and eyes…) will thank you.
