Hailing from Deutschland, Berlin bound electro producer Sascha “Apparat” Ring began his career crafting techno beats for the dance floor. Tired of an archetypical style of music, he parleyed his musical focus unto ambient oriented soundscapes. Now in his 10th year of putting out tunes, he brings his latest installment, The Devil’s Walk.
Calming strings saunter past your ears as a hymn like chant makes for a most tranquil atmosphere on intro track “Sweet Unrest.” On the following “Song of Los,” a heartbeat tempo bass kick guides Ring’s satisfyingly sorrow saturated singing. Songs like “Goodbye” take about two minutes to pickup into the meat of the melody, that is, the chorus, but this is not atypical of Apparat’s style. The use of a wide variety of sounds on the record reward attentive listeners with subtle changes in pitch and arpageations and will undoubtedly put a smile on the faces of fans.
The music throughout The Devil’s Walk is a rich canvas beautifully decorated with an ebb and flow of sound with almost sedating properties. Apparat really shines luminously with his distinct vocals, despite limiting himself to a solitary style of singing on the album. Fans of chill out ambient soundscapes will definitely dig The Devil’s Walk.
