The Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger is the fantastic amalgamation of Sean Lennon and Charlotte Kemp Muhl. The Los Angeles Troubadour was the perfect venue for their whimsical and entertaining tone. Lennon started the show by saying “Elton John made his debut here … my dad [former Beatle John Lennon] got kicked out of here for heckling… and now The GOASTT has done a cowbell solo on this stage.” Muhl agreed with Lennon, “There’s so much history here, I think I saw Jim Morrison’s puke upstairs. Framed.”
The duo showed their musicianship by playing many instruments – some all at the same time. Lennon sang, played his guitar and even played the drums at the same time for some songs. Lennon and Muhl also gave the crowd smiles not only from their music but their witty banter.
Opening for The GOASTT was sweet and folksie Laura Gibson. Gibson took to the stage slightly shy and hidden in the dark, but her music slowly unfolded to what was music full of emotion and heart. Gibson ended her set with a song where she asked the crowd to hum the melody as she sang the lyrics. Definitely a musician to watch.
