Not only is Linkin Park releasing a new album entitled A Thousand Suns and going on a South American/European tour in support of it, they’re getting some serious input from their fans about what the album is going to sound like. The band has released audio stems from their upcoming single, “The Catalyst,” on their website with the idea that their fans can mix and edit the tracks, upload their mix back to the website and then compete to see which one is the best. The winning track will either be included on the upcoming album or the fans responsible will go on stage with the band to perform it.
The angle that Linkin Park is going for has also been utilized by forwarding-thinking groups such as Radiohead–for their album In Rainbows–and Nine Inch Nails–via remix.nin.com, a website where fans can submit and discuss their remixes of the entire NIN catalog.
A Thousand Suns comes out on September 14 on Warner Brothers Records. “The Catalyst,” however, drops August 2nd. The audio stems are already online here.
