On Saturday, The Mog Party is clearly the place to be. What looked like a two-hour line formed at the front door as hundreds hoped for a chance to view the party’s stellar lineup. Early on, the newly launched Broken Bells (Danger Mouse and James Mercer from The Shins) backed by a full band, played what could arguably be considered their sixth show. Danger Mouse led the band on drums while Mercer played guitar and sweetly sang. The band’s lush instrumentation was intact, and Mercer helped each song reach chilled-out levels of smooth. The band shows promise on every level, but for those curious, their performance felt a bit stagnant, as if they haven’t quite been able to perfect their chemistry onstage chemistry yet.
