Curren$y is coming to The Hangar in Downtown on Saturday, July 30th. A frequent collaborator with the likes of Lil Wayne and Wiz Khalifa, Curren$y has been making great vibes for many years now. It took him a while to really get cemented in the rap game but, now he’s here.
Curren$y is a rapper from New Orleans who has been active since 2002. He was originally signed to Lil Wayne’s Young Money label but he was not able to release an album during his time there. Instead he kept releasing mixtapes until his first studio album “This Ain’t No Mixtape” released on Amalgam Digital in 2009. Since then Curren$y has kept his fan base growing and has kept spitting out great songs. He is also a great feature artist, appearing on many other artists songs and making them hits. The song that made me recognize Curren$y was from Wiz Khalifa’s “Kush and OJ” on the song “Glass House”. Curren$y’s latest album “Canal Street Confidential” released in winter of last year, take a listen to “Bottom of The Bottle” from that album too.
The Hangar is a dope venue in downtown themed around an actual airplane hangar. It has a big pit in front of the stage where you’ll be able to vibe to Curren$y all night. The “Stoned on Ocean” tour should be pretty lit for fans of rap. If you get a ticket by July 8th you also get a CD of his newest mixtape.
