The 16 year wait is finally over, The Avalanches have officially announced a release date for their sophomore LP. The album will be called Wildflowers and will be released on July 8 on Astralwerks and available for pre-order. Robbie Chater and Tony Di Blasi, the two core members of the band behind their astonishing and groundbreaking 2000 debut Since I Left You are back at the helm for this release.
In April the band announced a short tour, with some speculating that it could hint towards new material finally being released. The band proved those speculations to be well-founded by releasing a short teaser video and then created a hotline with a sampling of a new song.
In addition to the news that a new album will be released, The Avalanches have offered up a brand new video featuring MF Doom and Danny Brown. This collaboration is mostly expected, considering Danny Brown made a claim to have created two songs with the group.
It has been a long and winding road for to reach the Australian band’s second full-length record. Every few years rumors would lead to promise of a new record, but time after time they were mere teases. There was some musical offerings from the band – 2010 saw a 10-year reissue of Since I Left You, like a Hunters & Collectors remix in 2013 and a song for the King Kong musical. In 2015 Darren Seltmann left the band, creating fears there would never be a second album.
