Preoccupations, formerly known as Viet Cong, have announced a series of tour dates with Explosions In The Sky. This will be the first tour for the group since changing their name, and will presumably begin a new chapter for the band.
The extensive tour will begin in Washington, winding its way through Europe before making its way to Canada in October. Preoccupations is also scheduled to play a handful of festival dates, including Sasquatch!, Best Kept Secret, and Ottawa Blues. The group is currently working on a new album, although no details have been released regarding a name, release date or track listing.
Since their formation in 2012, the group faced a great amount of controversy over their original band name. The name “Viet Cong” was accused of promoting racism and cultural appropriation, and it even caused a show to be cancelled in Ohio last year. After years of these accusations, the band released a statement discussing why they finally opted to change their name. “Art and music are about creative expression,” the group wrote on Facebook. However, our band name is not our cause, and we are not going to fight for it. This is not what our band is about.”
