Mike Patton, best known as the lead singer of American experimental metal band Faith No More, will soon be releasing new material under the moniker of Mondo Cane. According to a tweet from Ipecac Recordings, Mondo Cane’s new album, centered around re-worked, orchestra-based Italian pop songs from the mid twentieth century, will be released on the label the first week in May.
The tweet, posted at about 9 p.m. ET on Friday, read:
“Oh my! Mondo Cane(Patton) record out first week of May, new Melvins record first week of June and more Isis soon too!!!!”
The heavily anticipated album was initially expected to be released in November 2009, but a Faith No More reunion tour pushed its release back to its current date.
Mondo Cane first got their start in 2007, when Patton put on several concerts in Italy performing classic Italian pop songs with the Metropole Orchestra under the aforementioned name.
