Deerhoof have announced the release of their new album, The Magic, set to be out on June 15. The band has released the single “Debut” since announcing the album.
Drummer Greg Saunier says, the songs on this album were meant to evoke “what we liked when we were kids – when music was magic – before you knew about the industry and before there were rules. Sometimes hair metal is the right choice.”
If you pre-order the album you will receive a free cassette of Deerhoof covering some of their favorite songs.
According to Brooklyn Vegan, “Three of the songs on The Magic were actually written and recorded for HBO’s series Vinyl but never used.”
Following the album announcement, the band released” Plastic Thrills,” which can be heard below. The track follows the release of “Debut.”
