Astronautalis is back and ready to release his first full-length album in five years. Produced by John Congleton (Modest Mouse, Bill Callahan), the LP Cut The Body Loose will be available on May 13.
While the song and album titles alone may seem a bit aggressive, Astronautalis does not want people to think this way. The album title is based on an aspect of a traditional New Orleans jazz funeral in which “the music guides grievers from heavy, insurmountable suffering to a full-on raucous celebration in the streets.” Meanwhile, the album hopes to guide listeners in the same direction. The teaser for the first single, “Running Away From God,” can be viewed below and is available through iTunes with all pre-orders of the new album.
Astronautalis has also announced a full U.S. and Europen headlining tour to go along with the release of the new album. The tour will be with Ceschi and Factor Chandelier and kick off on May 5 in Chicago. It continues on for 2 months and ends in July. In the meantime, Astronautalis will also be performing in March at the SXSW Guacamole Showdown event hosted by Avocados from Mexico and Culture Collide.
Throughout his 20 year career, Astronautalis has primarily been known as a battle rapper. However, he has also dabbled in multiple genres including indie rock, blues, electronic and more. Check out the video for another song on the album “Sike!” below
He is an unpredictable and highly charismatic performer who is known for his live shows, so be sure to check out the new album and see him on tour! Check out how to buy tickets and the full track listing for Cut The Body Loose below
