Macklemore and Ryan Lewis announced the release of their new album, the brutally honestly titled “This Unruly Mess I’ve Made.”
The pair has recruited a village of support, including Chance the Rapper, Anerdon. Paak, YG, KRS-One, DJ Premier, Idris Elba, among others. According to Pitchfork, The album is to be released February 26 and will include the previously released “Downtown” featuring Eric Nally, Melle Mel, Kool Moe Dee, and Grandmaster Caz, “Growing Up (Sloane’s Song)” featuring Ed Sheeran, “Kevin” featuring Leon Bridges, and “White Privilege II” featuring Jamila Woods. Gearing up for their newest album, the duo has stayed busy promoting their singles, touring across the country and preparing for their highly-anticipated sets at Bonnaroo, Roots Picnic, and other music festivals.
They tease This Unruly Mess in a dramatic video trailer, documenting the pair’s journey over the previous year editing music, traveling between shows, and celebrating success. Macklemore’s thoughts are dubbed over the montage: “Music was not intended to be programs to turn into a commodity.” he says. “Music was intended to be that one thing we rely on to disrupt the norm.” While the clip does not display any music on the forthcoming album, it strongly hints that the album will continue to discuss Macklemore’s perspective on political and social issues plaguing the nation.
