Brian Wilson is getting around one last time. The Beach Boy’s singer and musical enigma has announced dates for an extensive tour in honor of the 50th anniversary of his 1966 masterwork, ‘Pet Sounds’.
Wilson will begin the tour in Auckland, Australia, Japan, and Spain before heading to the U.S., with a show in Austin, TX on April 30. He will then play a string of shows in the U.K., but will return stateside in June. The tour has been promoted as the final time fans can hear Wilson perform the iconic album in its entirety.
Pet Sounds marked a maturity for The Beach Boys when the band’s trademark surfing vibes made way for experimental sonics and lyrical themes of disillusionment, loss of innocence, and heartbreak. Although the album was initially met with mixed reviews, it is now considered one of the most influential of all time for its melodic singles and avant-garde production.
Since his departure from the band, Wilson has released 11 solo albums, charted 17 singles, won 2 Grammy awards and saw his life portrayed in biopic Love & Mercy. He will kick off the ‘Pet Sounds’ tour March 26. Click here for ticket info.
Update 10/13: Wilson has extended his farewell tour through May 2017. Tickets go on sale Friday (10/14). Presale will be available Wednesday (10/12) at 10 AM. Check out the updated schedule below.
