The soundtrack to Rubble Kings – the 2015 documentary that highlights gang violence in the Bronx in the 1970s – has been entirely produced by Little Shalimar. The album features acts like Run the Jewels, Bun B, Ghostface Killah, Mr Muthafuckin eXquire, Ka and Boldy James. The latest track features TV on the Radio’s Tunde Adebimpe and Roxiny, who teamed up for a track called “Phoenix.” Listen to the song on SoundCloud below:
The synthesized, robotic track features Roxiny and Adebimpe’s sing-song vocals over a mostly repeated melody – it will be interesting to see how it fits in with the rest of the album. The Rubble Kings soundtrack will be out on January 15 via Mass Appeal. Roxiny stated in a press release about the song that “The idea of the phoenix felt powerful to me—it’s a symbol of hope, rebirth, and survival; one that speaks to me personally. Most importantly, it’s a message I felt from all those who lived to tell their stories in Rubble Kings.”
