The Arcs, a side project by Dan Auerbach of the Black Keys, have released a track called “Young” that was co-written with David Berman of The Silver Jews. The track was premiered via the website for Record Store Day.
The Arcs are putting out a 10″ special release called The Arcs Vs. The Inventors Vol. 1 starting November 27. The release features the collaboration between The Arcs and Berman, as well as Dr. John and Los Lobos’ David Hidalgo. Auerbach said, “We’ve been meeting at night, writing together for a few years. This is the first time we’ve shared any of that. The Arcs have recorded more songs from the collaboration and we hope to release more of it very soon.”
“Young” is a mellow track with great percussion and guitar parts. The vocals are muffled and distorted but in a pleasant way. The track opens up with a woman speaking in Spanish, which seems to have nothing to do with the rest of the song. Some of the lyrics include “everybody knows how their story can end” and “I was dumb but the pleasure was mine,” fitting with the theme of being young and growing up from that. In recent months, The Arcs have released music videos for “Put A Flower In Your Pocket” and “Outta My Mind.” The band is currently on tour, though they have a break between November 16, their final European date in 2015, and December 1, when they begin playing in North America again.
