In the wake of last week’s tantalizing new hit-single, “Thank God For Girls,” veteran nerd alt-rockers, Weezer opted to drop an even better cut this week, aptly titled in the form of a question: “Do You Wanna Get High?” While the track will officially be made available for all your digital-streaming needs tomorrow, November 4, “Do You Wanna Get High?” made its soaring-premier earlier today during Zane Lowe’s Beats 1 show on Apple Music.
Having cultivated a far-more polished and straightforward geek-rock sound with such big-ticket producers as Rick Rubin within the last decade-or-so of their fledgling career, this latest cut sees Weezer harking back to their edgier, garage-junk roots. Meddling in seasoned adolescence, crunchy guitar-licks, and wall-shattering pumps of bass and snare sprayed with the inevitable cymbal shards-of-glass to round out that 90’s fare we once knew and loved. It appears these dorks-of-yesteryear still know how to pull-through an old board of “Dungeons-and-Dragons” to ignite a whiney sense of nostalgia given a simpler time in rock-music.
Frontman/mastermind, Rivers Cuomo and bassist, Scott Shriner debuted “Do You Wanna Get High?” today during an extensive interview on Zane Lowe’s Beats 1 show. These alternative-rock pioneers fervently discussed their new batch of songs for the first time publicly.
The Weezer crew seeks to contribute their brand-new tracks as well as several older favorites from their lengthy-catalog in a live performance for a special iHeart Media event that will air tomorrow at 8pm in all local market stations throughout.
