David Bowie has announced the release of his new album Blackstar, for release on January 8, 2016. A single by the same name will be released on November 20.
Bowie’s last release in 2013 with his LP The Next Day, fans were left hopeless for new music. The announcement of Blackstar came as a surprise and was a rumor until Bowie’s website confirmed the news. According to SPIN, the New York Times wrote about the album on Friday with no sight of confirmation anywhere until today. David Bowie’s website notes that “reporting on the sound and content of the album” was “inaccurate,” with no further clarification.
His 25th album, Blackstar, is a project recorded in New York City’s Magic Shop with jazz musicians. The seven track album will be released January 8th, Bowie’s 69th birthday, and “he’s made an album of long, jazzy jams mixed with the kind of driving beat pioneered by Seventies German bands Can and Kraftwerk.”
The title track also serves for the theme music for the European crime series The Last Panther. The full song will be out on November 20 but you can listen to a snippet of it below.
