Rapper Kendrick Lamar has announced that he’ll be touring the United States in October and November during a tour he calls Kunta’s Groove Sessions.
He will be joined by his backing band, the Wesley Theory, as well as another Top Dawg Entertainment rapper, Jay Rock, according to Pitchfork. The tour will start October 20 in Washington, DC, and it will end November 10 in Oakland, California. The tour opener in DC is a special performance with the National Symphony Orchestra at the Kennedy Center. The tour is more than likely named for Lamar’s track “King Kunta,” itself a reference to Roots main character Kunta Kinte. The song was his third single from his latest album, To Pimp A Butterfly, which was released in March 2015.
In addition to the release of his third studio album, Lamar collaborated on a track called “Eyes Above” with Flying Lotus as well as a song called “Thuggin'” with Glasses Malone and Run the Jewels’ Killer Mike. He has already played at a number of festivals in 2015, including Bonnaroo in June, Pemberton in July, Osheaga and Outside Lands in August and Life Is Beautiful in September.
UPDATE 10/20: Lamar has announced new dates in New York City, Philadelphia and Cleveland. The list of tour dates below reflects this update.
