Los Angeles-based Qui has released a new video for their track “Shame On You,” from their split 7″ record with The Melvins’ Dale Crover.
The vinyl and digital split 7″ was released on September 4 via Joyful Noise Recordings. It is part of a series of 7″ records that Qui will be releasing this year. The first was available in March and featured two new Qui singles via the label Blood of the Young. Their second was released by Cobraside in April and was a split 7″ with hepa/Titus, and now they have one with Dale Crover featuring “Shame On You” and “Big Uns.”
The song is dramatic, with an organ being the main backing instrument and the vocals rising from a calm demeanor to yelling about shame. The duo plays characters in the video, a woman and her son, with the woman berating the young boy for his shortcomings. Later in the song, the boy character has the chance to respond lyrically. Both audio and visual components have some distortion as the song continues, adding to the surreal feeling of it all. Watch “Shame On You” below.
Qui released a full-length album last year, entitled Life, Water, Living. The eleven-track album was generally well-received in spite, or because, of Qui’s eccentric sound and style. The also released a video for “I Definitely Love You” in autumn of 2014, featuring Jesus Lizard vocalist David Yow and The Melvins’ Kevin Rutmanis. This year, they will be touring in select cities in the United States throughout October with Hammerhead. See below for the full list of tour dates.
