British electronic music band Hot Chip has been touring extensively behind their latest album, Why Make Sense?, which came out in May 2015.
On Tuesday August 4th, the band was playing their first of two sold-out shows at Webster Hall in New York City. On their summer tour, in support of Why Make Sense?, they have been covering Bruce Springsteen’s 1984 hit “Dancing In The Dark,” as an encore, and then seguing into LCD Soundsystem’s song, “All My Friends,” according to Brooklyn Vegan.
The thing that set this performance apart from the other instances that Hot Chip covered the song as an outro on their summer tour is that they were joined by one of the members of LCD Soundsystem: Nancy Whang, the band’s vocalist. Additionally, during this performance of “All My Friends,” Sinkane joined Whang and the members of Hot Chip onstage.
Sinkane is a British musician that blends so-called krautrock, free jazz and funk rock with Sudanese pop sounds to create a sound that is all his own. Currently, he is signed with DFA Records.
And, at Hot Chip’s second show on Wednesday August 5th, the band brought on another special guest. Scottish-born American musician and Talking Heads founding member, songwriter David Byrne, joined Hot Chip for both of the aforementioned songs – “All My Friends” and “Dancing In The Dark.”
