Modern-funk guru Dam-Funk has revealed that he will be releasing his first solo album in 6 years, Invite the Light, on September 4th via Stones Throw. Along with the announcement, Dam has provided a teaser with the record’s leading single “We Continue.”
“We Continue” is a funky, upbeat jam reminiscent of the classic G-Funk Era—the period that motivated Dam-Funk’s creative genius. The track’s mid-song guitar solo provides that extra kick to this rhythmic beat.
On Invite the Light, Dam flexes his own producing ability throughout, with a little help from guest artists. G-Tip, Ariel Pink, Snoop Dogg and Leon Sylvers III & IV are among the names that appear on the album. The album begins and ends with warnings of a world without funk, a la Juni Morrison of the Ohio Players.
Stream “We Continue” here and check out the rest of the tracklist. If you can’t wait for the album’s release, make it to one of Dam’s shows in L.A. this summer at the Hammer Museum and the Santa Monica Pier.
