Recent reports state that rapper DMX and a member of his entourage are being investigated for allegedly robbing someone in Newark, NJ. According to NJ.com, the alleged robbery took place at a gas station early on the morning of Saturday, April 4.
Newark Police Sgt. Ronald Glover spoke with NJ.com about the alleged robbery. In a brief interview he stated that the victim explained the situation to him. “The two had a brief conversation about rap music and during the conversation a male in DMX’s entourage, showed the victim a gun and demanded the victim’s money,” Glover said.
The victim said DMX stole $3,200 dollars in cash from him before trying to escape in black Cadillac Escalades. Nj.com reports that the victim was able to pursue the vehicles in order to obtain license plate numbers for police.
The rapper was in Newark for a scheduled performance at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center that was happening Saturday night. This information has been confirmed by the art center’s website. Despite DMX’s fame, some do not seem surprised by the rapper’s behavior given his history of getting into trouble with the law. NJ.com notes that DMX was arrested four times in 2013 on various chargers of traffic violations.
Police have released little to no updates on the progress of this investigation. It is still unknown if the license plate number provided by the victim was connected to DMX. Additionally, reports do not confirm whether the rapper has been contacted about the alleged robbery. At this time NJ.com states that no arrests have been made and no criminal charges filed.
