One of the nation’s longest running historical festivals since 1959, Newport Folk Festival, is back to platform and cultivate some of today’s top modern day music performers. The 2015 Newport Folk Festival will take place on July 24-26th at Fort Adams State Park in New Port, RI. Acts from across the globe and different genres such as rock, blues, jazz, soul, indie and much more have come together for preserving the legacy of folk music through its non-profit foundation portal. In the early 1960’s, festival goers witnessed a legendary performance with the “Blowin in The Wind” singer-songwriter, Bob Dylan made his critically acclaimed premiere appearance as a guest of Joan Baez, an influential folk singer-activist. In 2013, the Newport Folk festival traveled across the states and touched down on the southern California coastline to bring the west coast some Folk lovin’. The festival took place right off Santa Monica Pier for their inaugural Way Over Yonder showcase. Newport Folks Presents is one of the many innovative moves to bring shows to cities all over the country and their gearing up to bring STATE OF THE UNION: A CELEBRATION OF AMERICAN ROOTS MUSIC a monthly concert series to Nashville, Chicago, Napa, and New York City.
According to Brooklynvegan.com tickets for the 2015 Newport Folk Festival are already sold out for festival passes and individual concert tickets for the Saturday and Sunday shows but you are still able to purchase Friday, July 24th tickets which will feature Bahamaas, Calexico, Haunt The House,Heartless Bastards, Iron & Wine and Ben Bridwell, Leon Bridges and The Lone Bellow. Other artists included in the lineup this year are The Jones Family Singers, The Suffers, Nikki Lane, Madisen Ward & Mama Bear, Blake Mills, Traveller – Cory Chisel, Jonny Fritz & Robert Ellis and many more.
British folk-singer-songwriter, Laura Marling, is amongst the few artists on the lineup who have been releasing new videos and releasing new projects which could possibly give fans great anticipation for her stellar summer time appearance.
Last year, we reported the 2014 Newport Folk Festival lineup and coincidently, due to the festival’s popularity, tickets were already sold out upon announcement. This year the festival is taking things to the next level by expanding their acts on all three days, so all hope isn’t lost and if you haven’t already started planning your trip, this is your chance to get in on the music-infested action.
