FFS, the latest supergroup from members of Franz Ferdinand and Sparks, want to make a good impression. Well, they’ve certainly done it with their latest teaser.
The masterminds of two of the most fascinating rock bands have joined forces for an upcoming album. While we don’t yet know details on the title or track list, we do know that producer John Congleton is working with the new band in the studio.
Although they are still in their infant stage as a band, FFS has already teased some new music, which you can check out below. Their band name stands for Franz Ferdinand Sparks, in case you were wondering.
The video features FFS members being “stacked” next to each other like a set of dominoes in a black and white film. Stopmotion cuts show an arm pushing one member, forcing his head to drop onto the shoulders of the bandmate in front. One after another member disappears until Sparks’ Ron Mael is the only one standing. We see his famous mustache staring back at us as the singer recites, “We must make a good impression. We must make a great impression.”
One thing’s for certain, it’s one hell of a way to introduce a band.
The music itself has a decidedly Franz Ferdinand flare to it, which shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone. the short song clip features stop-and-go guitar riffs, upbeat melodies and quirky vocal stylings. While we can’t be sure if this is a song off of the upcoming new album yet, it might be a peek into what we can expect from this band in the coming year.
That’s not all the supergroup has in store for curious fans. They recently announced a tour in Europe, where they will perform new songs for the first time in front of a live audience.
They have their first show set at Glasgow Arts School this June, and other shows in London, Zagreb, Paris, Brussels, Slovakia, Berlin, Lyon, Amsterdam and Cologne. Interested ticket-buyers can snag their seats starting March 13 at 9 a.m.
Take a look at the full list of tour dates below for more information.
We haven’t seen much of Franz Ferdinand recently, and this is the first big news from the band’s camp since they performed a few gigs in 2014. Their last album, Right Thoughts, Right Words, Right Action, was released in 2013, but this was the last major announcement from the band until now. Read our review of their last album right here.
While Sparks have been around since 1968, FFS will also be one of the first new projects we’ve seen the duo work on in some time. Their last new album, The Seduction of Ingmar Bergman, was released in 2009. They also released a box set of material in 2013 and went on tour in 2013.
While we wait for a full song from FFS to be released, take a listen to their first song teaser below:
