The comedy outfit teamed up with crooners Tegan and Sara to perform an original song from The Lego Movie at the Oscars. Check it out below.
With full choir arrangements that were reminiscent of the last movement of Beethoven’s 9nth symphony in their grandeur and positivity, the song was without a doubt the most soaring moment of the Oscars last night.
There were troupes of cowboys holding Lego Oscars, there were flying and flipping breakdance routines. Will Arnett came out in his Batman suit playing a Batman guitar.
Perhaps the most awesome part of this awesome adaptation was Questlove and the zooming camera that captured him doing an awesome drumroll. He was decked out in an awesome costume.
Andy Samberg used familiar vocal rhythms with his first verse about chocolate pudding and chocolate possums rhyming with awesome.
Although the Lego Movie did not win for the Best Original Song, it still enjoyed the most awesome performance the Oscars have seen in awhile. The song itself in it’s context in the movie comments on our society today, as a lot of the movie does (how to manuals for everything, 37 dollar cups of coffee, and going to the bar after work to watch the game), and its presence at the Oscars was fitting for the type of society that both the original song and the ceremony reflects.
Tegan and Sara were nominated for Group of the Year, as well as for Album of the Year with their new album Heartthrob.
