It’s not everyday that a group known as psychedelic rock pioneers announces a reunion for a special 50th anniversary performance. But that is exactly what The 13th Floor Elevators is planning to do at the Levitation Festival.

The reunion at the former Austin Psych Fest will feature the four surviving original members. This will be the first time that Roky Erickson, Tommy Hall, John Ike Walton, and Ronnie Leaterman have played together since 1967.
“Each year a few bands on our wish list get checked off, many that we¹ve had on the list for many years. Having the 13th Floor Elevators on the festival lineup is just something we hadn’t even dared to dream about. The band is massively influential and important to psychedelic rock and music in general, and we¹re so proud to host this performance in May. Surreal,” says Rob Fitzpatrick, Levitation co-founder and booker.
The 13th Floor Elevators have had a history of success int he Psychedelic musical genre, despite their short four year existence from 1965 to 1969. They have repeatedly been credited as one of the first psychedelic groups to become big, and have been vital in the development of garage and punk rock.
The 13th Floor Elevators will be joining the already announced performers for the festival. Artists like The Flaming Lips, Tame Impala, The Jesus and Mary Chain, and many more are involved in the lineup for the May festival.
Levitation has really evolved over the last eight years as to fit the niche audience of psychedelic music and underground rock, taking charge in presenting quality performances and continued leading in the musical space. They are also welcoming their new partners Transmission Events and to assist with the growth of the festival.
