News of A$AP Yams death was confirmed on Sunday. The founder of the A$AP Mob was 26 and the cause of death is yet to be released.
A$AP Yams, whose real name is Steven Rodriguez was born in Harlem. He spent the majority of his life there where he served as one of the co-founders of the A$AP Mob along with A$AP Bari and A$AP Illz. At a young age he worked with Diplomats Records which gave him a background with the music industry. A$AP Yams is most notable credited with launching the career of Mob members A$AP Rocky and A$AP Ferg.
According to Fader, mob member A$AP Ant said A$AP Yams death was not drug related. “It ain’t no overdose,” He said during an interview, “People stop saying overdose ’cause that’s not what it is. It’s not an overdose. People keep talking about he overdosed on Xanax and shit like that, lean. No, that’s not what happened at all. I don’t wanna talk on it. It wasn’t that though at all.”
Artists expressed their shock and respect for A$AP Yams via social media as the news of his death spread.
