Outkast’s Andre 3000 has announced that he is turning his custom jumpsuit designs into a branded line of t-shirts.
Consequence of Sound reports that the jumpsuits have been one-of-a-kind items that are on display in Miami exhibition i feel ya: SCAD + Andre 3000 Benjamin. There are 47 of the jumpsuits in total, which Andre 3000 created during Outkast’s reunion tour. He wants to take the messages from those jumpsuits, including “i just wanna sleep” and “art or fart?” and apply them to a t-shirt line.
In an interview with FADER, Andre 3000 said, “We hadn’t performed in 10 years. It was old songs. I’m like, ‘How am I gonna present these songs? I don’t have nothing new to say.’” That’s where the idea for the custom jumpsuits came in. “So I was like, ‘Maybe I can start saying new stuff while doing these old songs.’ It became a theme where I was more excited about this than the actual show. This is fun, running out in these.”
Those statements match up with the things Andre 3000 has been saying other interviews in 2014, including one with the New York Times in which he talked about not getting anything out of the reunion performances and that he felt like a “sell-out” when reuniting with Big Boi for the tour and festival appearances.
