Following the cancellation of a summer tour due to illness, we are happy to report that former Bikini Kill and Le Tigre frontwoman Kathleen Hanna is back in action with her latest punk project, The Julie Ruin. The band recently announced plans to release an unreleased track – “Blueberry Island” – from the Run Fast album sessions as a limited edition vinyl album.
“Blueberry Island” is being released exclusively through an online music shop, which caters to vinyl lovers and music aficionados. The shop is run by Dave Sitek’s Federal Prism label, and works with Pledge Music to get the albums into the hands of fans. This Julie Ruin release is going to be quite rare, as there are only 1,000 available. However, 500 copies must be pre-ordered, before they will put the album into production.
Federal Prism’s Pledge Music store page explains a little more about the process; stating, “These are all Pre Sale orders. All product will be manufactured only after the sale closes, and will be shipped within about 8 weeks thereafter. It’s all super special and super limited, so worth the wait! OH, AND HEY! ALL PRICES INCLUDE SHIPPING & HANDLING! YES.”
The B-side of the “Blueberry Island” 7-inch album will be the YACHT remix of “Right Home” from the Julie Ruin’s debut album. Described as “a melodic and downtempo number with a decidedly dreamy ’60s vibe” by Consequence of Sound, “Blueberry Island” was a featured song in The Punk Singer, a documentary about Hanna’s life and career that premiered at Austin’s SXSW festival in 2013.
