Dan Deacon has announced that he is releasing a new album entitled, Gliss Riffer. His new record – his fourth overall – will be released in North America on February 24th, 2015, via Domino. Outside of North America, the record will be available on February 23rd, 2015.
The Gliss Riffer marks a departure for Deacon, who had released two large ensemble recordings, 2009’s Bromst and 2012’s America, before choosing to return to a simpler style of writing and recording that is reminiscent of his first album, Spiderman of the Rings, released in 2007. In addition to stylistic similarities, Gliss Riffer shares a direct and ecstatic energy with Spiderman of the Rings.
Yet, the electronic sounds found on Gliss Riffer, is informed by his post-Spiderman of the Rings material. In fact, Deacon retains the Disklavier, a MIDI-fed player piano first heard on Bromst, and cross-rhythms that are suggestive of America’s orchestral songs and his other works including a performance at Carnegie Hall and a score for a Francis Ford Coppola film. Even with the layering that Deacon’s fans have come to expect, Gliss Riffer showcases his vocal ability on the lead single and first track of the album, “Feel the Lightning”.
Check out the Andrew Jeffrey Wright of All Ages Production-directed video for “Feel the Lightning”, below. And, yes, that is Deacon singing the higher female vocals, too, according to a press release about Gliss Riffer.
Gliss Riffer will be available on CD, LP, and digitally. Right now, there is a limited edition red vinyl album available for pre-order through Domino. But, act fast, because there were only 777 copies pressed. And, the album pre-order also includes a limited edition 12″ inflatable Gliss Riffer hand that is pictured on the cover. Additionally, fans that choose to pre-order, either through the label or iTunes, will receive an instant download of the lead single, “Feel the Lightning”.
