Whether you are a fan of In This Moment or not, the video they have just released for their song “Big Bad Wolf” is a must see.
With Marilyn Manson-like imagery, the dark, flashing, in your face video matches perfectly with the track. Taking place in a cold, black dungeon, the lead singer Maria Brink is draped in white, flailing around either in a cage, surrounded by masked women, or chained to the walls, which is fitting considering she is screaming, “Even in these chains you can’t stop me!”
In an era where the images on the screen don’t always have anything to do with the song, it is refreshing to watch a well-produced, entertaining video where the smallest detail is included down to her “dirty little piggy” fingers.
Instead of the “Big Bad Wolf” getting in to the little piggies’ houses, she uses a little “Ego Pig” as a metaphor for an “Ego Pig” talking smack about who she has become. Telling her that she wouldn’t be where she is today without her, taking credit for who she has become. Eventually the smack talking pig becomes the “Big Bad Wolf” trying to get into Brink’s head, until she realizes that the piggy is actually a part of her, and so is the wolf. She then realizes she wouldn’t be who she is without both sides. The song is a great example of the struggle between who we are and who people want us to be, and how both are necessary to get to where we are going.
“Big Bad Wolf” is off the band’s fifth studio album Black Widow, which debuted on the Billboard Charts at No. 8, selling 36,000 copies in its first week and was released on November 17.
The band’s last album, Blood, debuted at No. 15 in 2012, while their 2010 release, A Star-Crossed Wasteland began at No. 40.
According to Blabbermouth, in a recent interview about touring and the new album, Brink told The Pulse of The Radio,
“We’re definitely feeling it and I think that where we most see it is in the crowd response, you know. Where it used to just be like, you know, they’d clap and they’re happy and that’s it at the end of a song, where now it’s like they’re screaming, like, with everything that they have in them. And some people are crying and it’s definitely like going to a brand new level for sure that we’ve never had before.”
