System Of A Down has announced the official dates for their “Wake Up The Soul’s” spring 2015 tour. The tour is set to begin on April 10 in London at the Wembley Arena.
System Of A Down’s April 10 performance will commemorate the Armenian Genocide. This date marks the 100 year anniversary of when the Ottoman Empire tried to exterminate the Armenian people. This is the band’s first tour in Armenia. In a statement, lead vocalist Serj Tankian said, ““As a band, it’s been one of our dreams to play in Armenia,” he continued, “To be able to play in the homeland of our forefathers while respecting the memory of those that perished in the first genocide of the 20th century will be an honor.”
This tour holds a great deal of meaning to all four members of System of A Down, because all of them are Armenian descendants and have lost family as a result of the Genocide. Over the years the group has always worked to bring awareness to the Armenian Genocide. In 2009 Tankian made of video for President Obama to remember his campaign pledge to honor Genocide victims. Additionally, following a 2013 concert, referenced the Genocide when speaking to the crowd.
“The pursuit of justice knows no time restraints, recognizes no obstacles, and will not be halted until justice is met, whether it’s one hundred years or one thousand,” says drummer John Dolmayan.
