Scottish rockers The Vaselines have announced their upcoming tour dates in Europe and North America.
The Scottish duo of Eugene Kelly and Frances McKee, known for being favorites of Kurt Cobain, has received wide critical acclaim for their latest album. Their album, V for Vaselines came out September 29. Wondering Sound says they have “hit upon the perfect formula” for pop; Paste says they’ve got “pop simplicity with just enough bite to retain a rougher-sounding past.” Under the Radar calls them “confident and constructed” like never before, and they made it onto Vulture’s list of the 39 fall albums you should get excited about. They’ve released videos for the summery “High Tide Low Tide” and the acoustic “One Lost Year.”
The North American part of their upcoming tour will begin in Washington DC on January 14. The tour goes through the northern east coast first before going into Canada (they will play in Montreal and Toronto), and then the Midwest (Detroit and Chicago). The band will make appearances on the west coast with shows in Vancouver, Seattle, Portland, and San Francisco. The tour ends in Los Angeles, where they will play on January 28th.
The Vaseline’s began in 1986, though they didn’t become very popular immediately. It was only with Nirvana’s cover of their songs that they became known in the States. They opened for Nirvana’s UK tour, and the rest is history. The band broke up and reformed in 2008. Their last album was released in 2010.
