Thurz has released a new song called “Right Now”. It will be on his album called Designer which comes out November 4 via Red Bull Sound Select.
The rapper from Los Angeles is known for his L.A. Riot album. The album came out in 2011, touching upon the L.A. race riots from 1992 and paying tribute to Rodney King.
This new song of his touches upon more personal subjects. In “Right Now”, Thurz raps about his own background and childhood, as well as fatherhood. The chorus has more upbeat lyrics than those in the rest of the song. During the chorus,Thurz shouts out to the world, encouraging everyone to say how they feel right now. He sings about being “on a superman ship right now.”
Thurz also plays around with the music, throwing sounds together that aren’t normally put in one song. In the beginning, the music is very theatrical–perhaps something you would hear in a musical or a dramatic movie. Then the beat comes in relatively slowly and Thurz begins to rap.
While “Right Now” doesn’t seem to have a common rap musical background, Thurz somehow makes it work. The piano playing is particularly incredible, with grand sweeping piano scales. It somehow complements his rapping well and definitely makes for an interesting combined sound.
There is a passion that flows throughout “Right Now.” The song was produced by Aaron Harris.
Thurz will also be performing on November 13th at The Echo as part of the Red Bull Sound Select Presents: 30 Days in LA.
