El-P and Kiler Mike may be two of the most ferocious rappers out there today, but when they team up they become Run The Jewels, add Michael Minslow, the crazy sound effect maker with his mouth and you get their newest single, “Oh My Darling Don’t Cry”.
Although part of their upcoming album, RTJ2, set to release on October 27th, you can check out the first track on SoundCloud via Adult Swim Singles now. Featuring a robot voice by Winslow, best known for his role as Larvelle Jones in the Police Academy films, “Oh My Darling Don’t Cry” picks up right where “Blockbuster Night Pt. 1” left off which was the first single released from RTJ2.
The hard, strong thumping beat, dripping in vocal and sound effect samples is kept alive by its 808 claps, explosions and Outkast-esque lyrics. Giving props to Notorious B.I.G., letting the listener know they do two things, “Fuck and Rap,” the track abruptly switches to a space age computerized beat, making you feel like El-P and Killer Mike are trapped inside an 80’s horror video game.
The full album RTJ2 will be a free download and is set to feature such artists as Zack de la Rocha, Travis Barker, BOOTS, and Diane Coffee. To accompany the single and the new album, Run The Jewels have announced an extensive world tour, along with tickets for many of the shows on sale now.
After El-P produced Killer Mikes critically acclaimed album R.A.P. Music in 2012, the two combined to form Run The Jewels and had their first album of the same name by 2013.
