Radiohead’s Phil Selway is ready to release his sophomore solo album, Weatherhouse in a few weeks. This new single is the second off the album.
With a video already out for the single“Coming Up For Air,” this new track from Selway is another preview of the Radiohead drummer’s forthcoming album. Weatherhouse comes out October 7, and given the caliber of the tracks we’ve heard so far, it promises to be a richly emotional endeavor.
Selway’s latest single is piano-focused song with smooth, mellow vocals that sing out rather melancholy lyrics: “Remember me? I used to be something, didn’t I?” It’s a song marked by the gentleness of the piano and Selway’s voice.
That said, the song isn’t entirely depressive sounding- it’s certainly got minor undertones, but the lightness of his voice on the chorus and the force of the background instrumentals as the song picks up make it sound almost uplifting. The song climaxes and closes with vocal harmonizations and a full instrumental backdrop while Selway chants the mantra, “It will end in tears, and I won’t be sorry, no.”
It’s a lovely and a little sad song. Check out the track below.
