The Bird and the Bee has just released its first original music in four years. The indie synth-pop duo, comprised of Inara George and Greg Kurstin, has created a very upbeat song called “Undone” that is featured in the film Sex Tape, a romantic comedy which was released today.
The enthusiastic tune of “Undone” matches its positive lyrics, which propose seizing the day. There is a desire infused in the lyrics and in George’s voice.
Lyrics which best reflect this are in the chorus, with phrases such as: “I want to be yours, I want to be ours” and “I want to be the one that makes you come undone.”
The tune of the chorus is particularly catchy. The drums and synths work well together to create a cheery melody that at times can also feel somewhat dreamy.
George’s voice also fits the song well. She easily hits the high notes and has a strong voice on the lower notes, which successfully helps drive her aspirations home.
During the instrumental break, the background calls of “hey” take on a somewhat stranger tone, almost too electronic. This does not work very well with the rest of the song.
Overall, the song is enjoyable and leaves the listener wanting to get up and dance and maybe try taking what they want out of life as well.
