The New Pornographers are back! Nearly four years since releasing their last LP, Together, The New Pornographers have announced their 6th studio album. The album, entitled Brill Bruisers, will drop on August 26. Alongside the release of the new album, the band as also announced a tour of the US this fall in support. The tour kicks off in October and heads to Philly in November. You can catch The New Pornographers at Union Transfer on November 20th. Opening the showw ill be The Pains of Being Pure at Heart.
Frontman for The New Pornographers, AC Newman, says Brill Bruisers is “a celebration record.” He explains, “After periods of difficult, I am at a place where nothing in my life is dragging me down and the music reflects that.” The Canadian band formed back in 1999 and dropped their first record, Mass Romantic, in 2000. They went on to release Electric Version (2003), Twin Cinema (2005), Challengers (2007), and finally Together (2010).
Tour openers, The Pains of Being Pure at Heart, were here in Philly back in May with a stop at Johnny Brenda’s. If you missed the packed show, you’ll want to head to Union Transfer early this November to get a taste of the newly incarnated version of The Pains of Being Pure at Heart. They were out supporting their newest record, Days of Abandon, so you can expect to hear some new tunes from that album as well as old favorites like “Heart in the Heartbreak” and “Come Saturday.”
